University Courses

David teaches in St. Louis, in Europe, and online. He often teaches introductory courses in moral philosophy, political philosophy, and the philosophy of leadership. Leadership is his special interest; leaders can make a big difference, for good or for ill, and are thus eminently worthy of philosophical understanding.

Publications

David’s classic text, A Guide to Good Reasoning, is now available free and online in its 2nd edition from the University of Minnesota.

Access David’s recent publications in the philosophy of leadership and management.

As the staff philosopher for Tennessee Williams St. Louis, and before that for Upstream Theater, David has offered a philosophical look at a variety of plays.

Talks and Conversations

Get to the essence of leadership by exploring it through the lens of philosophy. What is it, what isn’t it, and why does that matter? How does it link to organizations, to their members, and to society? What can we learn from the philosophers who said the most about it—Plato and Machiavelli in the West, Confucius and Lao Tzu in the East? Can all of this, plus a brand new car, bring true happiness?

David has spoken on leadership to audiences in China, Thailand, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Cuba, the United Kingdom, and around the United States.
